About/Contact

My name is Steven A. McKay and I’m a writer from Old Kilpatrick, near Glasgow in Scotland, heavily influenced by the likes of Bernard Cornwell, Douglas Jackson, Ben Kane et al. My first book in the Forest Lord series, Wolf’s Head, was set in medieval England and it’s a fast-paced, violent retelling of the Robin Hood legends. It hit the number 1 spot in the UK “War” chart, reached the overall Kindle top 10 bestsellers list. I’ve gone on to write lots more novels and novellas, you can find all my books HERE.

I also wrote all the backstories for the characters, collectables, and maps in the recent Xbox/Playstation game HOOD – Outlaws & Legends.

Now I’m working on my Warrior Druid of Britain series, and have recently had my standalone novel LUCIA published by Audible Studios. In 2022 I started a podcast with fellow author Matthew Harffy, check out Rock, Paper, Swords! – The Historical Action and Adventure Podcast HERE. We’ve had amazing guests like Simon Scarrow, Bernard Cornwell and Dan Jones so far, with more to come in 2023!

ROCK, PAPER, SWORDS!c

In total, I’ve sold over 250,000 books in the past few years, with hundreds of five star reviews for them.  As a working class man from a little village in Scotland, I’m honestly amazed at how many people enjoy my writing.

Thank you all so much for reading!

    1. Hi Amos, thanks for your comment and thanks also for the Amazon review, I woke up this morning to another nice 5 stars, greatly appreciated! 🙂
I’m working on the second book now, it’s roughly half finished, so I’m hoping to have it ready for about the turn of the year. Stay tuned…

  1. Really enjoyed that,.fantastic. I have read.vast quantities of historical fiction.
It started slowly, but the writing and the story kept getting better and better. Put me down for a first run of the sequel..

    1. Thank you Chris, much appreciated! I’ve been told by a few people they thought it got better as it went on – I think it’s probably because it took me almost three years to write. I improved as a writer as I went. Hopefully, that bodes well for the next book (which is ALMOST finished)!

Please, if you get a minute, leave a review on Amazon, it really helps. 🙂

Thanks again for taking the time to post,
      Steven.
